I created Drawing Down the Moon almost two years ago. I was craving RP, and didn’t have much interest in some of the games I saw on my extremely brief google search. I wanted something that would appeal to an older Cats crowd, particularly the over-eighteen group, as sometimes it’s uncomfortable for a few of the older members to RP with younger ones, and vice versa. I decided on 16+, although extremely geared for 18+. Besides this, I wanted a game where we wouldn’t get stuck with poor writing. This stems from being an English snob at times—it gets frustrating to do all the work in a game, and I wanted to have something appeal to people who wanted to think, who wanted more than just simple actions and play but to have a story, plot, character development, etc. And, the most critical thing, was that I wanted a drama-free game that was relaxed so that people with jobs or school or busy lives would be able to participate without feeling pressured to do so.
That was my intent, and always my intent.
The rule of administrator is to take care of things and oversee the board. If there’s a problem with a particular member of the board or a certain situation, I have encouraged members to contact me privately, and left all of my contact information here. It states, and I repeat,
If anyone has a question, comment, concern, or problem involving another player or posts, please contact me privately. This is a fun RP, and while there might be in game drama, I don't want OOC drama if I can help it. I've already dropped a few players because of this in the past because RP should be for pleasure, and DDTM is a rare game in that it was specifically developed for those who had classes, jobs, and whatnot. It's low key (although we tend to be frequent posters), and I really enjoy that, and think everyone else does too.
So please,
In the event of something anyone is unsatisfied with, contact the admin.
Although I put it humorously, I created a set of general board rules here.
It has come to my attention that there has been a problem with rules 2 (Respect Your Fellow Players) and 3 (No God-moding). I have not been strict about rule 8 because all of us tend to communicate frequently via different means, IM, CCDB, FB, etc., and generally we know when we’re busy.
Re: Rule 8, if people would like firm, solid rules about this, I will. I’m generally not in favor of this because it partly defies the purpose of the game.
In regards to the rest, Heota and me have some valid concerns.
We’re disappointed to see god-moding on the board, saddened to see avoidable conflict, and mortified to discover that we lost a member due to them feeling threatened and unwelcomed on the board. In addition, perhaps we have not been as clear as we should have been about this, but as the admin, everything needs to run through ABT and/or Heota—this includes what happens to threads, especially if there is a post that addresses me. There is specifically a section on the board for abandoned/irrelevant threads. For the incident we’re referencing, we would have given the option of deleting the god-modded posts to continue a thread, or move the entire thread to the abandoned/irrelevant section. We would have been preferred to be contacted privately by both parties when a conflict came up to reduce drama. ABT’s OOC comment was a general board reminder from an administrative standpoint. There was a very snarky response to ABT’s comment, and another post following that was addressed to ABT to remedy the situation before that member quit. ABT and Heota were unable to see the deleted post on the board, but received a copy via email.
The admin is not always right, however we expect to be treated with respect and addressed when there is a problem such as this. As well, if there’s a critical rule that has been broken and the admin comment on that, we expect it to be resolved. No, just because a character is not active, it does not warrant another player controlling them, in particular an OC. If there is a NPC (Non-Player Character), we have granted permission for members to use and god them as necessary as stated in the Rules. That said, we did not grant permission to do this with established Original Characters. Original Characters are personal to their creator, and unless they give permission for someone to use their character, or do some sort of exit, they’re not to be touched. We encourage people to consider this if they leave the game and are part of a plot, and perhaps leave an option for what they would like to have done with their character.
In the past, we have removed players from DDTM to ensure that it’s a safe, pleasant, and fun space for everyone. We don’t want to remove people from this current game, but if we need to, we will. This comes from an administrative standpoint, and it does not affect how we personally view our friends, which ALL of you are. This is a general board message and warning—Keep drama off the board. Don’t air your dirty laundry.
If one wants to talk about personal drama, we would be more than happy to as a friend off the board, but RP is not real life. We don’t mean to deter from depressing plotlines as angst is a great genre, however this is fiction. Solid fiction. Besides being an open invitation to drama, it can also make other board members feel uncomfortable.
Feel free to address any questions or concerns to us.
