One of the cats at the farm I currently work at had kittens a while ago.
My close friend Janne works for a cat shelter, and takes on foster kittens every year. I will take these kittens (there are already far, far too many feral cats around the farm), and she will foster them, until they are big and social enough to be adopted out.
Until they're old enough to be taken away, they're my cats. I socialize with them every day, and momma cat, who is very much feral, has accepted that I won't harm the babies, and will happily settle down for a snooze a foot away from the nest while I babysit.
Janne and I have decided to name the babies Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.
I am taking photos regularly, either with my phone or with my digital camera (if I can be bothered to go fetch it, ahah. Will take some proper camera photos on monday, methinks.), to document their growth and adorableness.
I have a facebook gallery for them, and it's public, so all of you, also those who are not friends with me on facebook, should be able to view them, over here.
Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, may 26th, approx. 10 days old, eyes just opened.
It's hard getting anything done at work, I keep getting distracted by their adorableness! <3
They're about four weeks old now, so a photo update is definitely needed. Monday, yes, yes. Home on weekend right now, so can't take any photos
I'm taking them home to Janne on July 2nd. They will be about 7 weeks old. Which is too young to be adopted out, but the perfect age to take them in for fostering. I'll feel kinda guilty taking them away from their momma so soon, but if we let them get much older (makes things tricky that I only go home every other weekend, too), they will probably become impossible to catch, and end up run over by machinery or squashed by straw bales, or somesuch. Life on the farm is rough.
Also, the boss was actually talking about killing them, until I told him "don't you dare, I want to take them home".
I kind of hate farmers sometimes. In stead of fixing the adult feral cats, they just let them multiply, and just kill the kittens if they come across them. Breaks my heart
Jerrie and Rumple are destined for a much better life, though. <3
I wish we could have cats where I live, I'd love to keep the two of them for myself. But at least I'll be helping Janne out with fostering them, and they will eventually end up in a loving home, once they've had their shots, been fixed, and are old enough.
