Puck had no clue where she was wandering to. Somewhere quiet and secluded would be nice. She always seemed to need to regroup after being around others, as if being social drained all her energy even though it was something she desperately wanted.
She just let her feet carry her and stopped thinking about where she was going, her mind processing the evening. Eventually she ended up at a chain link fence that she assumed marked the edge of the junkyard. Looking around she couldn't find an opening to get through it and she didn't have the energy to climb it, so with a sigh she started to look for a good hiding place.
There wasn't much there but by shifting some boxes around Puck made a cozy nook behind a garbage can where she could still see if anyone came by. Once she was settled she opened her bag and grabbed her other shirt, quickly stripping off her old one. It wasn't much cleaner then the one she had been wearing, but it would work.
She settled back and nibbled on a bit of the food she had, absentmindedly fiddling with the piece of paper she kept with her. It was just a worn piece of scrap paper covered in hatch marks, but she wouldn't give it up. She remembered making each mark and she'd probably be making them for quite some time.
Disgusted, she shoved the paper back into her bag, pushed it to the far side of her nook and turned her attention to the other side of the fence. She hated that paper.

Kamaria was a night owl. Always had been. Somewhat like Jemima, she had a thing for the moon. She wasn't obsessed, like the kitten, but she did enjoy the company of the moon, especially when she needed to think, to clear her head. What a long, strange day it had been. Wandering aimlessly, Kamaria was trying to figure out her thoughts and feelings. She was quite close to where Puck was hiding, but was too lost in thought to notice she wasn't alone.

Puck was pulled out of her absentminded gaze when she heard footsteps coming close. She made herself as small as she could in her nook, but realized she had forgotten to grab her bag. Nothing in it was worth much but it wasn't something she liked to leave laying out in the open. She scooted towards it with an arm stretched out, wondering if she'd be able to grab it before the other cat saw it or her.

Kamaria walked right past Puck's hiding place without noticing her. She was thinking too much. Picking out an old tyre, she sat down on it, pulled her legs up close to herself, and buried her face in her knees. Still oblivious to the other cat's presence.

Reaching her bag, Puck grabbed it and quickly moved back to the dark corner of her nook. She peered out to see who it was and relaxed a little when she saw it was Kamaria. She didn't know the queen well, but she seemed nice. And right now she seemed a bit upset.
Puck was torn. On one side, she would prefer to be by herself right now. On the other, she didn't like seeing others upset and liked to help when she could. She sat in silence for a while debating what to do, finally letting a quiet "Hey" come out, still curled up in the dark. She was pretty much unable to ever put herself before others.

Kamaria turned around when she heard the quiet greeting. She had no idea she hadn't been alone.
"...Puck?" she said quietly, peering towards her hiding place. Why on earth was she hiding way out here?

Puck moved slightly so she was more visible, but still a bit hidden. "Sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt." she replied, giving Kamaria the best attempt at a smile she could manage, hoping she wouldn't notice it was forced a bit.
"You ok?" she asked, genuinely concerned.

"Oh, not at all. I guess I'm the one interrupting, you must've been here first. Didn't see you at all, I'm sorry," Kamaria said with a small smile. She eyed Puck, noticing something seemed off.
"Yeah, I guess. I don't know. I think too much. What about you, how come you're hiding out here? I thought I'd be alone to mope way out here," she said. Another small smile. Trying to swallow the upset.

"No one does" Puck muttered under her breath, offering the queen a shrug. She was staring at nothing, unconsciously playing with the paper she had shoved in her bag through the fabric.
"Not really sure. Why I'm here. Or anywhere. Just wandering I guess. Thinking. Habit I guess." She was rambling. Trying to piece things together to seem alright. No use worrying someone she barely knew over something pointless. She knew she wasn't being convincing.
"Mope?" Puck squeezed her eyes together, trying to focus. "Why are you moping? Whats wrong?" Yes. Change focus. That always works. "Can I help?"

"Thinking. You and me both, then," Kamaria said with a small smile.
"Hey. You're obviously not okay either. You tell me yours and I'll tell you mine?"
She didn't know Puck well at all, but she very much wanted to. She seemed like her kind of queen. Besides, Kam was a carebear, even for cats she barely knew.

Puck was surprised. No one ever wanted to know what was going on with her. She had always been the care taker. "Hey. That's my job." She replied, giving the queen a smirk.
Thinking it over, Puck nodded, ignoring her usual thoughts when it came to opening up to another cat. This time might be different. "Alright, but you go first."

Kamaria approached Puck, and sat down next to her.
"Hope you don't mind," she said with a small smile. Then she sighed and looked at her hands.
"Ugh, it's silly. I just... I like Munkustrap. A lot. Have for quite some time. And... He never notices me. He never will. He has eyes only for Kitrina. She's a far better match for him anyway, it just... Hurts to see them together, you know?"
Pause. A shake of the head.
"...I get lonely. A lot. I'm 24, and never even been kissed. I'm kind of a loser," she said with a short, bitter laugh.
"Also, I get the tingles when I talk to Skimbleshanks, sometimes. I don't know if I'm developing feelings for him, or what. I don't even know him all that well, and he's fourteen years older than me. It's... confusing."
A scratch at the back of the neck.
"Anyway, I'm probably just being dumb. What's bothering you?" she asked, gently nuzzling Puck's shoulder.

Puck shook her head. "I don't think that makes you dumb or a loser. I think that makes you smart. There's nothing wrong with being 24 and not having kissed anyone. Its better when its with someone you care about who really cares about you, not just because." A small pause. "Or because they just say they like you."
"Once you find the right one, it'll happen. Don't let anyone get you down about it, alright? Even yourself. You're gorgeous. You'll find him." She returned Kam's nuzzle, smiling.
"As for me." Puck shifted, trying to ignore the voice in her head screaming to just keep quiet. "I dunno. I-I'm not good at trusting others. I try, I do, but no matter what its not enough. Guess I'm just not worth it."
Her gaze turned to her bag while she started unconsciously picking nonexistent lint off her pants. "No matter what I do, how I change, I'm just not good enough. So many have pretended to be my friend, only to drop me when they got what they wanted."
"Better to just keep my distance and not get attached. Can't hurt as much when I end up alone again, ya know?" She shrugged. She said it, nothing left now.

Kamaria smiled, then. "Thank you. I guess I'm a little old-fashioned that way. I want the magic, not just kisses for the sake of kisses, you know?"
She stared openly at Puck, involuntarily blushing a little, when she called her gorgeous. Nobody had ever called her that before. Ever. She was lucky if she got a 'cute' or 'pretty'.
"...or her," she said very quietly, barely audible. She fell for the person, not their plumbing. She rarely mentioned her sexuality, not because she was embarrassed about it or anything, she just didn't see the need to flaunt it, either. Her sexuality didn't define who she was, so why should it matter?
A small shake of her head, leaving that train of thought.
"Hey. Stop that. Who said you're not worth it, not good enough? Because that's bull. Seriously. You mustn't think so little of yourself," she said seriously.
"I know I'm not really one to talk, I fail at following my own advice, but still. I'm sorry you've had so many bad experiences. I swear not everyone's like that, though. I'm not. Promise. Once you're friends with me, it's pretty much impossible to drive me off again," she said, smiling with the last words.

"Nothing wrong with being old-fashioned. If it wasn't worth it, it wouldn't be around still." Puck replied, then started to laugh when she saw the blush and knew what it was for. "You are. And if anyone tells you otherwise, I'll kick their asses."
She gave a shrug. "Lots of people have said it. Just not in so many words." A glance to her bag, debating. Oh sod it. I've told her everything else already. She reached in and started to pull out the paper. "When 5 drop you, you get sad. When 10 drop you, you start to question your taste in friends. At 20, you start to question whats wrong with you. After 30, you stop questioning and just accept it." Puck handed the paper, covered front and back with hatch marks, to Kam and curled up around her bag, resting her head on her knees. "I've lost count now."
Puck caught Kam's admission, but didn't let on. "I think you and I have a lot in common." She paused a little, smiling. "I'm the same with my friends. They could come back and I'd drop everything to help them." A slight nod at the paper.

The laugh and the reaffirmation made Kamaria blush even more. She smiled, though. "Thank you."
Kamaria stared at the piece of paper when Puck pulled it out, completely at a loss for words.
"Wow. That's... Wow. Holy crap. I'm so sorry. I don't know what to say," she murmured softly, and wrapped her arms around Puck, not really thinking about what she was doing, just instinctively attempting to comfort somehow.
"Tell you what. I'm gonna be your friend, and you will never ever lose me, even if you try!"

Puck was a bit surprised at the hug, but quickly warmed up to it and returned it as best she could in her position. "Thank you." Maybe things will change here. she thought, smiling. It has too sometime, right? The paper and how many times she had that same thought not registering at the time.
"I mean it too. Their asses will be kicked."

"Good." Puck replied, her smile growing.
Straightening up a bit, Puck took the paper back and stuck it in her bag. She gave a small shrug. "Habit."

Kamaria looked at Puck with a frown.
"Wouldn't you be better off throwing that piece of paper in a ditch or something? Keeping it can't possibly be good for your mentality," she murmured, a little worried.
Kamaria had a feeling she could become really rather close with Puck, maybe possibly even best friends one day, and, well, her carebear instinct was kicking in big-time.

Puck rubbed the back of her head, feeling a bit ashamed. "Probably. Yea." A small shrug "Just can't bring myself to get rid of it though, ya know?"
No other cat had ever shown any real concern for her before. Maybe things would change here, maybe she'd find a real friend. Puck smiled a little at that thought. Maybe she'd finally have a reason to get rid of the paper.

Kamaria nodded. "Maybe I'll just steal it when you're not looking and dispose of it, then," she teased with a small grin.

"I'd like to see you try" Puck replied, challenging and returned the grin.
Suddenly feeling awkward about all the focus on her, Puck squirmed a little. "So, uh, tell me more about this Skimbleshanks. Whats he like?"

Kamaria blushed and fidgeted a little. "I'm getting into a sticky situation with that," she sighed and gazed out of their little nook, lost in thought for a second. "Skimbleshanks... You may have seen him around. Big red tabby. Green eyes. Very handsome. Nicely dressed," she murmured and smiled. "He never goes anywhere without his pocket watch. He's very punctual; he has to be. He works at the railway." Pause. "I'm afraid I might be falling for him. Which is incredibly inconvenient. Skimble is the father of Victor and Tumble. He's a lot older than me. And he'd never think of me as anything other than a friend, or possibly a surrogate daughter..." Kamaria sighed. "I sure know how to pick the unobtainable ones," she said with a bitter smile.

Puck sat for a moment and thought, wondering if she had seen him. "Oh! Yes, pocket watch. I believe I've caught a glimpse of him as I was roaming around, but haven't actually met him."
"Hey, you don't know that." Putting an arm around her new friend's shoulders. Her turn to be comforting. "Love is a weird thing. You may think that he'd only see you as a friend or daughter, but maybe he likes you too but is afraid you think he's too old for you. Does he have any idea that you like him?"

"I'm sure you'd like him. He's incredibly nice," Kamaria said, and smiled. "Of course I might be a bit biased, but. As far as I know, everyone loves him." She leaned into Puck's hug. "I highly doubt it, although I wish you were right." Kamaria shook her head. "I think he's blissfully unaware."
|

"Blissfully unaware is no good." Puck tsk'd, shaking her head. Then, in a sudden change of mood Puck was prone to have at times, she jumped up and grabbed Kamaria's hand, pulling her up as well. "We need to let him know! I bet he just doesn't know how to tell you his feelings. I mean, who wouldn't want to be with you?"
Puck grinned and grabbed her bag, gesturing at Kam. "Lets go find him!"

Kamaria flailed. "What?! No! No no no! No way!" She blushed, and sighed with a self-conscious smile. "I just... No. Not yet. I'm not ready. Besides, it might just be a silly infatuation," she said, a little desperately.
